The most famous of the "Egyptian pyramids" are the three pyramids of Cheops, and Hefren Mikerin. They are located in a straight line. The chief architect and superintendent of construction is Haemon, a relative of Khufu. The pyramids are located on the west bank of the Nile, the Memphis necropolis. Ancient Egyptians believed that this was the land of death because the sun sets in the west. Their homes were erected on the east bank of the river.
